George Soros Philanthropic Involvement

George Soros was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1930. At the period the country was infested by Nazis. HE spent his entire childhood with his family running from the Nazis. Later, George Soros solely migrated to England where he enrolled in London School of Economics and graduated. In 1956, George then shifted to America for a job on Wall Street. He brought his parents to the country. George had a keen interest in financial markets where he later invested in, and his investment was a success. In the year 2010, George Soros was ranked 35th richest person in the world.

Other than finance markets and other businesses, George Soros also has a great interest in Philanthropy. Soros founded Open Society Foundation and organization that focuses on charity and helping refugees and civil society groups across the world. The organization has been active since 1993, and today its presence is felt in over 37 countries across the world.

The organization aims at improving justice, education system, public health and media independence. Since its inception, the organization on has spent over $11 billion in its charity activities. Today, the organization is aiming to reach more and more countries across the world and ensure the organization serves more and more people.

George Soros organization, the Open Society Foundation, borrow its name from a 1945 book written by Karl Popper. The book’s title was ‘The Open Society and its Enemies.’ The organization was reported to have spent $827 million in in 2014. In the year 2013, Open Society Foundation had a budget of $873 million and it was ranked as the second biggest private budget on Reason. Bill Gates Foundation Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was the leading with $3.9 billion philanthropy budget. The open foundation has transformed lives of many people across the world, and it’s still targeting to reach more countries and ensure that its goals are achieved.

Throughout his life George Soros has been a vocal supporter of refugees, in fact on September 2016, George said that his organization was planning to allocate $500 million to support companies that have been founded by refugees. Most of the companies that expected to benefit from the fund are those in Europe. The move is aimed at increasing chances of these companies excelling in their field of operation. George was once an immigrant startup, and this may have motivated him to concentrate on helping the immigrants.

Other than Philanthropy and business, George had also involved himself in politics. In 2004, he was behind the John Kerry Campaign. He was the leader funder; John Kerry failed, and he was disappointed and decided not fund another campaign. Just recently, George made up his mind and decided to fund Hillary Clinton campaigns. He is still the leading funder of the campaigns. It seems that everything George Soros does, he do it big. In 2004, he was the leading contributor in the presidential campaigns and still in 2016, he still the leading. George’s career has been a success, and he has been able to impact lives of lots of peoples across the world.
