Alfonso de Angoita Noriega – Grupo Televisa Successful Head

     Alfonso de Angoita Noriega is the director of one of the largest companies in Mexico known as Group Televisa. This company is the leading Mexican mass multimedia company. It is also the largest in Latin America and Spanish speaking world. Alfonso has served on the board of the company since 1997. In 2009, he became an independent member of the board and at the same time became the chairman of the company’s finance committee. Alfonso has served in the board membership in various capacities.

Angoita served as the chief financial officer for the company from 1999 to 2003 when he was appointed the executive VP. Before coming to Grupo Televisa, Alfonso worked in New York City at White & Case LLP. He then went ahead and became the founding partner of Mijare, which is a leading Mexican Law firm. He served as the personal lawyer to Amillio, the current CEO of Grupo Televisa, when his father died. This relationship was strategic in restructuring the company both legally and financially. This contributed significantly to making the company regain its control.

Angoita is considered the key force behind Grupo Televisa’s success. His close friendship with the company’s owner also plays a major role in this success story. In fact, Alfonso is key in securing the 1.2 billion dollars deal that happened between Televisa and Univision. This deal was instrumental in improving the access of Televisa to Hispanic US residents, a feat that had been difficult to achieve earlier hence the huge success that the company continues to enjoy.

Alfonso regularly attends the Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference media summit that happens in Idaho each year. This is a private conference hosted by a friendly investment firm. The forum attracts heavyweights in politics, philanthropy, and business as well as culture.
