A Prolific Figure In The Meat And Food Processing Industry; Sheldon Lavin

A prolific figure in the meat and food processing industry, Sheldon Lavin is the Chairman and CEO of OSI Group, LLC. He also serves as President of OSI International Foods Ltd., as a General Trustee of Rush Medical Center and as a Director of National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. Even at the ripe old age of 81 years, he seems to find the time and energy to combine his work commitments with the many philanthropic activities he engages in.

Sheldon Lavin pursued his education in the field of accounting and finance. And later, he successfully went on to run his own financial consulting firm owing to his background. In the 70’s, it was during his time as a financial consultant that he came across Otto and Sons, who were one of the many food processing companies his firm were helping finance. But the business strategies and culture of Otto and Sons impressed him so much that he went on to become a partner. Otto and Sons then paved the way for OSI Group which has since gone on to become a global food supplier across 17 countries with over 60 facilities and employing more than 20,000 people. Lavin went on to gain a controlling stake of 100% in the company after his last remaining partner retired. OSI Group has made several notable acquisitions over the years that include Amick Farms, a vertically integrated poultry company in 2006 and Baho Food, Flagship Europe and Hynek Schlachthof GmbH in 2016 and 2017 respectively. They currently occupy the 58th spot on the Forbes List of America’s Largest Private Companies with a revenue of $6.1 Billion.

The OSI Group has gone on to win plenty of awards under the able leadership of Sheldon Lavin. He was awarded the Global Visionary Award by India’s Vision World Academy in 2016. It was awarded in recognition for his efforts in transforming a family-owned meat shop into a company of international repute and in turn creating jobs throughout the world. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by RSM US LLP for his efforts and service towards Chicago Business Community. OSI Food solutions were also awarded the Globe of Honor Award by the British Safety Council for their extraordinary efforts in environmental risk management strategies in the same year under his guidance.

Being as business savvy as he is, Sheldon Lavin is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts. He is actively involved with charities like Ronald McDonald House Charities, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, United Negro College Fund etc. among many others. He also serves as a Trustee for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Sheldon Lavin is most proud that he was able to give back to the community while raising his three children along with his wife.
