The Chainsmokers Change Direction With “Sick Boy” Single

The Chainsmokers, made up of American DJ and production duo Alex Paul and Andrew Taggart first broke the “Billboards Top 100” in 2015 with the hit “Roses”. After reaching victory in the top 5 shortly after with “Don’t Let Me Down” the dynamic duo continued to work themselves up the charts until they conquered the number one spot with the hit single “Closer”. Since then the charismatic duo have been recognized with awards from iHeart Radio, the American Music Awards and even won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

In January of 2018 The Chainsmokers released their first single of the year “Sick Boy”, a game changer for their musical style. The song has dark undertones of a societal view on self-identity and social media platforms.

Sick Boy takes a path to question pop culture narcissism with lyrics such as:

How many likes is my life worth?

Make no mistake, I live in a prison that I built myself, it is my religion…

The song takes a distinct twist from the work they have done in the past and opens up opportunities for Chainsmokers to reinvent their message. Fans have expressed a like for the new style that appeals to what life is like living in current pop culture. One can take for example the common, full time vlogger that may feel pressured to measure success in likes, shares and followers. The “sick boy” in the situation may be the one on screen receiving negative feedback for expressing his true self. The lyrics identify with and acknowledge social anxiety and the struggle with having to construct a persona to be more relatable to others.

Although it is still a mystery as to what the duo have planned for the future of their music, it is safe to say that they are committed to maintaining a strong connection with their fan base all over the world.

Observe that their makeup is really unique and amazing even though no one talks about this, it is more intentional. The idea is to have cheap dissertation services since there are hard work involved in this as well. I think it should raise new level of questions that will really make it clear for people to raise their voices over.
