Sheldon Lavin Is The True Driving Force Behind OSI Group

Sheldon Lavin is the CEO of OSI Group, which is an American food company that Forbes has rated as one of the top 100 companies in the United States. With a history that stretches out for more than a century, OSI was created in 1909 by Otto Kolschowsky. The company started a meat market and butcher shop that served Chicago but slowly grew into much more. In 1955, the company, which was called Otto & Sons at the time, became the original supplier of hamburger meat for McDonald’s. OSI opened a facility in 1973 that was dedicated to McDonald’s, and it was during the 1970’s that Sheldon Lavin joined the company, as well.

Sheldon Lavin worked hard to expand the company, and it was during 1975 that Otto & Sons changed its business name to OSI Group. During the next decade Lavin helped to expand the company into Taiwan, Austria, Germany, Brazil, and Spain and also helped to open two new facilities in the U.S.A. As the 2000’s came along, OSI began to expand its poultry division and spread out to different parts of the world. Part of this expansion saw OSI expand into the Australian market as well as the, much larger, Asian markets. Part of its expansion in 2010 included a beef production company in Japan, and after that year, the company moved expanded its operations in India and Canada.

Sheldon Lavin has been a part of OSI Group for so long, now, that he is practically synonymous with its name. When he first joined the company, he had years of experience as a banking executive and investor, and it was him who pushed the company to expand aggressively overseas. After the two brothers left the company, he took on full voting control and decided that he would stay with the company as long as it was expanding. Drawing from his experience, Sheldon Lavin was able to put together joint ventures and make the right kind of acquisitions that strategically put OSI Group into a leading position in the world’s food marketplace. Also, thanks to Mr. Lavin, the company has been focusing on green innovations, sustainability of its operations, and making a positive impact on the environment wherever it operates. As a philanthropist, he donates to a range of charitable organizations that work to help children and people who suffer from chronic illnesses. His hope is that he can leave the world a better place than it was when he came into it.
