Arpaio had been a racist sheriff throughout his entire time in office. He gained the attention of the whole country when he supported the birther movement started by Donald Trump to castigate Former President Barack Obama over his birth certificate debacle.

The birther movement went on to discriminate against undocumented immigrants and their children by seeking for their deportation. Arpaio became very popular and even labeled himself the “toughest sheriff in America.” Arpaio was of the opinion that the immigrants were the cause of the challenges that faced America economically.

In his county of Maricopa, oppression was too much. Latinos were arrested anyhow and placed in poorly maintained jails which Arpaio referred to as concentration camps. The most notorious prison was the Tent City. Thousands of immigrants were tortured and killed in this jail.
